About the Artist
Born in Philadelphia, Bruce Glider grew up devouring Marvel Comics, horror movies, and – yikes! – Baseball! Luckily, sports took a backseat to a growing love of “arty” rock, underground comics, photography, and constant doodling. Playing guitar in various bands, most prominently Philadelphia’s legendary King of Siam, and influenced by XTC, Frank Zappa, and The Residents, Bruce fueled his imagination with the bizarre influences of these bands. However, his dreams of guitar godness were eventually pushed aside and a 14-year stint as a commercial photographer ensued. Eventually he rediscovered his love of art and music, started dabbling in computer art, and eventually gravitated toward a more traditional painting medium. Influenced by artists such as Salvador Dali, R Crumb, and Mark Ryden, Bruce combined traditional painting with his photographic/digital skills resulting in his current style.
Bruce’s photography, digital renderings, and traditional paintings have been displayed in various galleries in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and South Florida. His digital work has also been showcased in Kai Krause’s “Kai Power Tools Tips and Tricks” book, and on the KPT3 Power Tools CD. Bruce’s work can also be found in The Community College of Philadelphia’s photographic archives, private collections, tagged on the backs of random cereal boxes, and wedged under the seats of various mass transportation vehicles.
